January

  • Arkansas Future Grant (ArFuture) — Last-dollar STEM & High-Demand Grant
Why It Slaps: A brand-new workforce-focused grant that literally wipes out tuition & fees for eligible Arkansas students in STEM or other high-demand associate/certificate programs. Because it’s “last-dollar,” ArFuture kicks in after all other aid, meaning qualified students can walk away tuition-free. It’s first-come, first-served (file FAFSA early), so early applicants lock in this generous coverage.
Amount: All remaining tuition and mandatory fees (last-dollar).
    Deadline: Spring – Jan 10; Fall – Jul 1.

  • Arkansas Teacher Academy Scholarship (TAC) — $6,000/Sem for Aspiring Teachers
Why It Slaps: Tackles the teacher shortage by paying you to prepare to teach. Up to $6,000 per semester (tuition and fees) is available for Arkansas students in teacher education programs. In exchange, recipients commit to teaching in an Arkansas public school after graduation – a win-win for future teachers. This scholarship essentially covers most college costs while you train to be an educator.
Amount: Up to $6,000 per semester for tuition/program fees.
    Deadline: Spring – Jan 10; Fall – Jul 1.

  • Governor’s Higher Education Transition Scholarship (GHETS) — Neurodiversity Transition Aid
Why It Slaps: Designed for students in Arkansas postsecondary transition programs, GHETS grants critical support for neurodiverse learners. Recipients can get up to $2,500 per eligible semester. It fills an important gap, covering tuition and other costs so students in accredited “inclusive college” programs can focus on building skills without financial stress.
Amount: Up to $2,500 per eligible semester.
    Deadline: Spring – Jan 10; Fall – Jul 1.

March

  • Governor’s Distinguished Scholarship (GDS) — Top-Tier Merit Award
Why It Slaps: Arkansas’s most prestigious merit scholarship for high-achieving seniors. If you hit a 32 ACT (1410 SAT) + 3.5 GPA (or are a National Merit Finalist), this pays big: up to $10,000 per year toward tuition, fees, room & board. It’s renewable for 4 years, so over college you could earn up to $40K. In short: great grades (or top test scores) = huge free money from the state.
Amount: Up to $10,000 per academic year (4 years max).
    Deadline: Mar 1 (annually).

July

  • Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship — Flagship Lottery Merit Aid
Why It Slaps: The state’s main merit scholarship funded by the lottery, open to any Arkansas resident who files a FAFSA and meets ACT/SAT/GPA criteria. It stacks each year: pays $2K\→$4K\→$4K\→$5K for years 1–4 at a 4-year school (2-year track is $2K→$3K). It keeps growing as you advance, and it even adds extra “PLUS” funds for lower-income students. Basically, if you meet minimum standards, you earn free tuition money every year through college.
    Amount: $2,000 in Year 1 → $4,000 in Year 2 → $4,000 in Year 3 → $5,000 in Year 4 (4-year); 2-year awards: $2K→$3K (plus FAFSA-based bonus funds).
    Deadline: Jul 1 (annual).

  • Governor’s Scholars Program – Non-Distinguished (GS) — Extra Merit Bonus
Why It Slaps: A special bonus for strong students not covered by GDS. If you graduate with a high school Diploma of Distinction, earn an associate degree in HS, or are your county’s top scorer (in a county without a GDS winner), you get up to $5,000/year for 4 years. This stacks on top of the Academic Challenge award, giving even more free tuition/fees/room&board for those who excel in high school.
Amount: Up to $5,000 per year (4 years, $20K total).
    Deadline: Jul 1 (annual).

  • Arkansas HEROES Scholarship — Tuition Aid for Military/Public Service Families
Why It Slaps: Honors Arkansas “heroes” by making college free for their families. If your parent or spouse was killed, disabled, or MIA in military service or died/disabled on duty as a law enforcement officer, firefighter, teacher, etc., this pays your in-state tuition, mandatory fees, and even on-campus room/board. It’s an eight-semester scholarship, so it can completely erase your college costs as a thank-you for a family’s service.
Amount: Covers 100% of in-state tuition, housing, and mandatory fees at eligible Arkansas colleges.
    Deadline: Jul 1 (annual).

August–September

  • ACCESS to Acceleration (A2A) — Concurrent Enrollment Aid
Why It Slaps: Bank college credits in high school at big savings. A2A replaces the old Concurrent Challenge program, paying $65 per credit hour (up to ~$2,000/year) for approved dual-credit courses. In practice, this means you can cover most of your tuition cost for college classes taken in 9th–12th grade. It’s administered by your school/college, but results in major debt-free head-start for motivated high schoolers.
Amount: $65 per college credit hour (up to $2,000/year).
Deadline: Varies by school term (apply through your high school/college; no central deadline).
