Missouri Scholarships and Grants

Senior year!!! What an exciting time – but, sometimes it can be confusing, too! On one hand you are cramming in a lot of social activity, and on the other hand you are filling out applications to college. It’s like you have one foot in the present, and the other in the future. There is one other thing you really need to consider for your future – a scholarship or grant to help with expenses. Every year there are thousands of unclaimed scholarships – and dollars – out there that no one ever gets, because no one ever applied for them. Don’t let that be you!!! Joseph J. Frank Scholarship – American Legion

Are you the descendant or dependent of a U.S. military veteran? If so, and if you meet other qualifications, you might just receive this scholarship. Other eligibility requirements include residing in Missouri, ability to demonstrate the need for financial assistance, and good grades. The award is for $500 and can be used in designated schools. Horatio Alger Missouri Scholarship Program

If you are a high school senior who has already faced and overcome great obstacles in your life, you need to take a closer look at this program.

Other requirements include ability to demonstrate financial need; that you have a minimum GPA of 2.0, and have a record of good academic achievement; that you are serious-minded in your approach to your future; and, that you are service oriented. Along with your completed application you will need to submit an essay, copy of your transcript, a letter of support, and an income statement. The scholarship may be used for full-time undergraduate study at 2 or 4-year colleges or universities in the United States. There is no specified field of study for this award, but you must be in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. For more details please check out this website: www.horatioalger.org/scholarships. American Restaurant

Do you love to cook? Do you watch all the cooking shows on TV and dream of someday becoming a ‘top chef’ or having a restaurant of your own? Then this is the scholarship for you!!! This award — $4,000 — pays for study at a licensed or accredited culinary school. If you live in Missouri, are a high school senior, and can prove that you are eligible, you’ll want to apply. Access Missouri Financial Assistance Program

This award ranges from $300 to $4,600, and is a renewable scholarship. If you are a Missouri high school senior, and can prove your need for financial aid within the guidelines of this program, you may qualify. First, go on line to fill out the free FAFSA application (see ‘note’ above). Only families with an EFC (expected family contribution) of $12,000 per year are eligible. Missouri Robert C. Byrd Honors

You have worked hard and have demonstrated consistently high scholastic achievement! Now, because of all your hard work, you may qualify for this prestigious scholarship. This award is renewable for up to four years, with an initial amount of $1,500 per year. If you think you might qualify for this scholarship, contact your high school guidance counselor. Missouri Teacher Education

This award is intended for use at a designated college or university by a student majoring in Education. To qualify you must have a record of high scholastic achievement. You must rank in the top 15% of your graduating class or score in the top 15% on your ACT/SAT. If selected, a commitment of teaching five years in Missouri schools is required. If you satisfy your commitment, the amount of your scholarship will be forgiven. If you do not fulfill this agreement, however, the scholarship reverts to a loan and must be repaid. Marguerite Ross Barnett Memorial

If you are planning on going to school half-time while you work at least 20 hours a week to support your education, this scholarship is for you. To apply you must be a high school senior residing in Missouri. You must complete the FAFSA (see ‘note’ on previous page) to establish your need for financial aid. Your employer will have to certify your employment. This award covers full tuition, and is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis; 185 will be given.
