Maine Scholarships and Grants

As a high school senior, you are probably in the middle of one of the busiest years of your life! There are activities galore, fun with friends, plans for the future, and you teetering on that step between childhood and your first adult journey – college! Despite the crazy-busyness of it all, you need to pull up and stop a minute. Take a deep breath, and think about applying for a scholarship or grant for a minute. Going to college is a giant step in many ways, not the least of which is financial, which makes a little help with expenses a really good thing. See the information we’ve provided below about programs available to Maine student residents, and ask your high school guidance counselor about others. Maine Robert C. Byrd Honors

You have worked hard and have shown consistently high scholastic achievement! Now, due to your hard work, you may qualify for this prestigious scholarship. You must be a Maine resident and a high school senior to apply. Award is renewable for up to four years, with an initial amount of $1,500 per year. This award may be used for tuition to attend schools anywhere in the United States. Application requires an essay, transcript, high school profile from your guidance office along with your SAT scores, and a list of your scholastic achievements, awards and honors. You must prove your need for financial assistance by completing the FAFSA application which is on-line (see note with more information above). AGC of Maine Education Foundation

Does taking a hammer to a nail to build something stir something within you? If a career in construction is your goal, this scholarship was made for you! Funds from this award range from $1,000 to $3,000, and must be used to attend school in Maine. Application requirements include essay, transcript, letters of recommendations, and a personal interview. You must also be able to demonstrate your need for financial assistance. Children and Youth Scholarships (American Legion Maine)

If you or a parent are a member of the American Legion, you are a high school senior, and you live in Maine, please read on. Other eligibility requirements are proof of financial need, and depth of character as evidenced by the way you conduct yourself. To apply you will need to submit letters of recommendation and a transcript. The award is for $500 for use at an accredited institution anywhere in the United States. Daniel E. Lambert Memorial

Do you live in Maine and are you a high school senior who is a child or grandchild of a U.S. military veteran? Can you demonstrate your need for financial assistance if you are to continue your education? Have you exhibited strength of character in your life in the way you interact with others? Then please apply for this scholarship! In addition to letters of recommendation and proof of your eligibility, other application requirements can be found on the website: www.mainelegion.org.

Maine Innkeepers Association

Somewhere in the not-too-distant future, can you see yourself managing an inn or hotel, or perhaps as a top chef? This scholarship is for full-time study vocational or 4-year universities in the United States that have fully accredited programs in hotel administration or culinary arts. To apply you must be a state resident, and plan to major in culinary arts, hotel or restaurant management, or hospitality management. You must be able to prove your need for financial assistance, and should have a track record of high scholastic achievement. Letters of recommendation, essay, and transcript need to accompany your application. The amounts of this award range from $250 to $2,000. Maine Society of Professional Engineers

If you plan to become an engineer or civil engineer in the future, check out this opportunity. If you are a high school senior and reside in the state, you may be qualified for this program. To apply, you will need to submit letters of recommendation, transcript, essay, and SAT/ACT scores. New England Board of Higher Education

This unique scholarship is available to students residing in New England who wish to major in a field of study that is not offered at public institutions in their home states. It is intended for use in New England public colleges and universities, and provides out-of-state tuition discounts to enable your attendance out of state. Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship Research Institute

This is a great opportunity! If you are a high school senior, living in Maine, who can prove your need for financial assistance and who has maintained a high scholastic record this just might pave your way to your freshman year at an accredited 2 or 4-year college or university in the United States. This exceptional offer awards one scholarship to a graduating senior from every public high school in the state, and it is renewable for up to four years.
