Kentucky Scholarships and Grants
Are you a graduating high school living in the blue grass state of Kentucky? If you are, this is an amazing time in your life, full of excitement and plans for the future. If part of that future includes going to college, this information is for you! Scholarships and grants are out there, and millions of dollars each year are not even applied for, much less claimed. Laura Blackburn Memorial
Do you have a parent who has been member of a Kentucky American Legion Unit for at least the last three years, or a deceased member? Are you a descendant or dependent of a veteran who served during the Grenada conflict, Korean War, Lebanon conflict, Panama conflict, Persian Gulf War, WWI, WWII, or Viet Nam? Are you a high school student living in Kentucky? If you answered ‘yes’ to these questions, you might be eligible for this scholarship. This scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000, may be used at 2-year or 4-year eligible educational institution in Kentucky. Application requires proof of eligibility. Kentucky Teacher
If you can picture yourself in front of a classroom teaching — and you are going to require financial assistance for the college education that will make that dream come true – read on! This is a renewable scholarship for full-time students in accredited 2 or 4-year Kentucky universities or colleges. In order to apply, you must reside in Kentucky, be able to provide proof of financial need, and major in education, early childhood education, or special education. In order to prove financial need, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and complete the free FAFSA application (see note above for complete details). Scholarship awards range from $300 to $5,000. Loan forgiveness is given, after graduation, for teaching in Kentucky schools – one semester for each semester of financial aid; or, two semesters if teaching is done in an area where there is a teaching shortage. Note: if you do not graduate or complete your teaching obligation, the scholarship reverts to a loan and must be repaid. For further information, check out the web at www.kheaa.com. Nurse Incentive Scholarship Incentive Fund (NISIF)
This scholarship is much like the one above, but it applies to students majoring in nursing. In order to apply you must reside in Kentucky, be a high school senior, provide proof of financial need, and have a history of academic achievement. Loan forgiveness is available after graduation based on work in a health care setting per semester of training. If post-graduate reciprocal work is not completed, the entire amount will revert to a loan and it, plus interest will have to be paid back. For more information, look for the NISIF on line.
Robert C. Byrd Honors
You have worked hard in school and shown consistently high scholastic achievement! You may qualify for this prestigious scholarship. You must be a Kentucky resident and a high school senior in order to apply. Scholastically, you are required to have at least a 3.5 GPA, minimum 1060 SAT score, or 2700 GED score. You must be recommended by a school official or GED coordinator. They will need to certify your eligibility on the KHEAA Website www.kheaa.com. Contact your high school guidance counselor for more information on how to apply. Award is renewable for up to four years, and initial amount is $1,500 per year.
