Vermont Scholarships and Grants

You’re a high school senior this year! You’re ready to embark on the next part of life’s journey and ready to go to college. Despite all the activities and fun with friends and college applications, why don’t you take a deep breath, and think about applying for scholarships, too. Everyone can use a break with the high costs of higher education! Listed below are some great opportunities, but if you don’t find one here that’s just right for you, go see your high school guidance counselor who has access to many, many more. American Legion

These scholarships are awarded on the basis of recommendations from American Legion Units in the state of Vermont. To be eligible you must be a graduating high school senior who either lives within the state of Vermont, or who lives in an adjacent state but whose parents are residents of the state, or who is a senior in high school attending an in-state school. There are various individual awards given, and they are:

• Charles Barber Award: one in the amount of $1,000
• Ray Greenwood Award: one in the amount of $1,500
• Other Awards: ten in the amount of $500 each

New England Board of Higher Education – Tuition Break Regional Student Program

This unique scholarship is available to students residing in New England who wish to major in a field of study not offered by public institutions in their home states. It is intended for use in New England public colleges and universities, and provides out-of-state tuition discounts to facilitate your attendance outside of Vermont, if necessary. Vermont Student Assistance Corporation

There are many opportunities for Vermont graduating seniors who have a need for financial assistance and who have already determined what field of study they are interested in pursuing. On the next page are a number of these, noting the field of study, and the amount of the awards for each. All schools recognized for these awards must be approved for Federal Title IV funding. Vermont Part-Time Grant

This is a grant and will never need to be repaid. It is unusual in that it is for part-time students only. If you are a graduating high school senior in Vermont who requires financial assistance to continue your education, and you plan to take less than 12 hours per semester, then you may qualify.
