Georgia Scholarships and Grants
Calling all you high school seniors in Georgia! You’ve worked hard, made your grades, and now it’s time to think about college – seriously!!! A scholarship or a grant might be just what you need to make your college education possible. And, even if that’s not the case, it never hurts to get some recognition – which is what a scholarship is — for hard work, well done. Scholarships and grants are bountiful in Gerogia. There are some listed below, and your guidance counselor can probably tell you about a lot of others! Give it a whirl – you’ll never know if you don’t apply!
American Legion Georgia Auxiliary
To qualify for this scholarship you must be a Georgia resident who is the dependent of a veteran or deceased veteran, and either you or a parent must be a member or participant of an American Legion Auxiliary, and be sponsored by that unit.
You must be a high school senior to apply. To find out more about this award and how to apply, check out the website www.galegion.org/auxiliary.htm. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000.
Accel Program Grant
If you are a junior or senior in high school, live in Georgia, and are going to need financial aid to attend college, listen up! This might be the solution. If you want to go to a public college this award pays tuition, fees, and a book allowance. For students at a private institution, it will award up to $1,500 per semester. And, you do not have to be a full time student, either. Amounts can be prorated if you are taking less than 12 hours a semester. Georgia LEAP Grant
The best thing about grants??? They don’t have to be repaid!!! If you are looking for a renewable financial assistance program, are a Georgia resident, and can prove financial need, you should apply for this grant. To apply, go to this web side – www.fafsa.ed.gov – and fill out the free application. You must also apply for and be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant. Awards range from $300 to $2,000. Georgia Robert C. Byrd
College is a big step, but you are ready for it! So, before it’s too late, why not apply for a scholarship to help out? This particular scholarship awards $1,500, and is renewable. It is to be applied to full time undergrad study at any 2 or 4-year institution in the United States. You must be a high academic achiever to qualify for this scholarship. Application requirements include an essay, transcript, proof of eligibility, and SAT/ACT scores.

Horatio Alger
If you are a high school senior who has already faced and overcome great obstacles in your life, you need to take a closer look at this program.
Other requirements include Georgia residency; that you be able to demonstrate financial need; that you have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and have maintained good academic achievement; that you are serious-minded in your approach to your future; and, that you are service orientated. Along with your completed application you will need to submit an essay, copy of your transcript, a letter of support, and an income statement. The scholarship may be used for full time undergrad study at any accredited 2 or 4-year college in the United States. There is no specified major field of study.
